Beside himself with grief at the death of his wife, Fukakusa no Shosho abandons his son and goes off to become a priest.  One of his retainers, Kojiro, becomes distracted by the worry and responsibility which devolves upon him and takes the son in search of his father by dragging him from place to place in a barrow.  One day, they come to the Zenko-ji and there, by a happy chance, are reunited with Fukakusa.
