Bird on Bamboo Branch

Japanese Sumi-e

Bird on Bamboo Branch

by Tokuriki Tomikichirō, 1982

IHL Cat. #276

About This Drawing

This sumi-e by the artist is one of several I've seen with traditional kachoga motifs.  Sumi-e was introduced into Japan in the 14th century by Zen Buddhist monks visiting from China.  It uses only brush-applied black ink on paper.
