Oirasegawa

by Yasui Sōtarō, c. 1956

IHL Cat. #2011

About This Print

In the summer 1932 Yasui stayed at Lake Towada and produced several works under the auspices of the Kokuritsu Kōen Kyōkai (National Park Association). On his way back home he created a number of sketches of the Oirase River which drains Lake Towada. The results of these sketches was the below painting which sits in the collection of The National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo.1

This woodblock print is likely a reproduction of one of the sketches of the river he created on this trip. While I have dated the print to c. 1956 based on collateral material received with the print, it is not definitive.
