Shite - an old man
Kyōgen - a local person

Act 2:
Nochi-tsure - a goddess
Nochi-shite - the god Taki-matsuri no Kami

A Court official on his way to the shrine of Tatsuta Myōjin falls in with an old man who guides him to the hill on which the shrine stands. When asked, he tells the official that here is enshrined the sacred spear which was carried by the gods Izanai and Izanami when they descended from Heaven and created the islands of Japan. He adds that he himself is Taki-matsuri no Kami, the protective god of the shrine, and then disappears. That night, while the official is resting, a goddess comes to the place and dances, and then the god himself appears, carrying the spear. He tells of its marvels and rejoices at the peace enjoyed under the present reign.
