About This Print

This song sheet, Senow No. 1041, was issued in 1926 by the music publisher Senow Ongaku Shuppansha.  The artist Takehisa Yumeji (1884-1934) designed around 280-300 covers for Senow, this one being for the song Kanega-narimasu by the composer and conductor Yamada Kōsaku1 山田 耕筰 (1886-1965.)  This particular graphic design was used on a number of different Senow song sheet covers in the series "Yamada Gakfu."

1 His name is sometimes seen in its westernized version of Kósçak Yamada.

Kojiro Senow

Kojiro Senow, the head of Senow Ongaku Shuppansha, was a publisher of musical scores and also a performance manager for many Western artists performing in Japan.  He was also the President of Yogaku Kensei Sha (The Association for the Study of Occidental Music), which he established in 1919.  The Society had a membership 1,200 in the 1930s.  Its purpose was to study and spread Occidental music.1
