About This Print

I don't know if anyone had done a count of Maki "poem" prints, but they must number in the hundreds. It is thought they all may be a tribute to his teacher, the abstract print master Onchi Kōshirō (1891-1955) who used "poem" as a title for a number of his prints and was often inspired by poetry.

As with all Maki's wood/cement block prints, we see deep embossing for the image areas.

benevolence - Maki presents us with the Chinese character for ren, the Confucian concept of benevolence.
